Are you ready for….. the ACE transition deadline? The March 31st deadline for the complete transition to ACE is fast approaching. As of this date all entries must be filed using the new Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system. ACE replaces the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) system and has reorganized their processes, which include an integrated commercial, administrative and enforcement operation which will allow for a new technological infrastructure. By allowing the use of only a single window for using the ACE system they will streamline the filing process for all commodities entering the country.
All parties involved with any filing processes with the Customs Border Protection agency along with about forty-seven Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) must be compliant with ACE. This will directly affect the following:
Since the deadline is fast approaching importers should be aware of any data that needs to be identified for the realignment of their supply chains. You’ll want to be sure you understand where and by whom the data will be maintained and how that data will become available in a timely manner. You’ll also want to know who is responsible to complete all data entry and be accountable for the timeliness in filing.
All CBP entries and those filed with the
will have to be filed through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system. In July 2016 thirteen more Partner Government Agencies PGAs will also be filing through an electronic connection, required for full compliance within the ACE system. ACE will provide a single and centralized approach point for the exchange community to link with its Partner Government Agencies and the Customs Border Protection Agency, known as the ACE Secure Data Portal. This will allow the PGAs and the Customs Border Protection Agency to have access to more detailed information that will let them analyze all of the data that has been entered.
The early data will allow importers, PGAs, and exporters a more specific procedure and the ability to concentrate on and examine in-depth the cargo that has been entered based on the electronic data.
